To get more recruiter calls on Naukri, your profile has to do three separate jobs: appear in the keyword searches recruiters run, survive the filters they layer on top, and look current enough to be worth dialling. That means a keyword-led headline and key skills section, an honestly filled notice period and CTC, precisely named preferred locations, and a profile you touch on a rhythm instead of once a year. The ten changes below are ordered by how much each moves you up a recruiter's result list.
How Naukri search actually works
Most candidates picture Naukri as a place where you apply to postings. Recruiters use it in the opposite direction. They log into the recruiter-side database — Resdex — type a keyword string, then narrow the results with filters: total experience, current location, preferred location, current CTC, notice period, industry and functional area. Only then do they open profiles and start calling.
Two things follow. Your profile is not a document, it is a search record, so every blank field is a filter you silently fail — a recruiter filtering for notice period of thirty days or less will never see a profile with no notice period set. And the result list is ranked, with recruiters working from the top, so a complete, keyword-aligned, recently updated profile gets seen far more often than an identical one left untouched for a year.
Get found: the four fields recruiter search reads
1. Write a headline that reads like a search query
The resume headline is the highest-value real estate on a Naukri profile, and most people waste it on adjectives. Recruiters do not search for "hardworking" or "seeking a challenging role". They search for a designation plus a stack, often with an experience band. Give them exactly that: role, three to five core skills, years of experience, base location, and joining availability where it sells.
| Profile | Headline that gets buried | Headline recruiter search matches |
|---|---|---|
| Java developer, 3.5 years, IT services | Hardworking software engineer seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation | Java Developer | Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, AWS | 3.5 Yrs | Bengaluru | 30 Days Notice |
| 2026 B.Tech fresher, campus batch | Fresher looking for an opportunity to learn and grow | Software Engineer Fresher | Python, SQL, Django, Git | 2026 B.Tech CSE | Immediate Joiner | Pune / Hyderabad |
| HR generalist, 6 years, manufacturing | HR professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills | HR Generalist | Talent Acquisition, Payroll, HRMS, Employee Relations | 6 Yrs | NCR |
The pattern holds across functions: nouns a recruiter would type, not adjectives you would use about yourself. For more worked examples, see our resume headline examples for Indian job seekers.
2. Fill key skills with the exact terms recruiters type
Naukri matches on strings, not meaning. If job descriptions in your field say "Spring Boot" and your profile says "Spring framework", you will not surface in a Spring Boot search. Pull ten to fifteen skills straight out of five or six live postings for the role you want and use their exact wording, including both the spelled-out form and the acronym where both are common — Search Engine Optimisation and SEO, Chartered Accountant and CA.
Two mistakes cost people here: padding the list with soft skills like teamwork, which no recruiter filters on and which dilute the section, and listing every technology you have ever touched. Put Kubernetes in there to look broader and you will get Kubernetes questions on the screening call.
3. Use the profile summary to repeat those keywords in sentences
The summary is read by both the search index and the human deciding whether to call. Write four to six lines of plain sentences that reuse your headline keywords and add what a keyword list cannot carry — the scale you work at, the domain you know, what you want next. "Backend developer with 3.5 years building payment integrations for a fintech client, working across Java, Spring Boot and AWS, looking for product-company roles in Bengaluru" says more than a paragraph of adjectives.
Name your domain, because in India it is often the real filter. A recruiter hiring for a BFSI client picks the candidate whose summary says BFSI over an identical one that does not, even when the stacks match exactly.
4. Upload a resume file the parser can actually read
Naukri parses your uploaded file to populate your profile, and recruiters download that same file before they call. A two-column layout, a skills chart, a header-embedded contact block or a scanned PDF parses badly, so the profile built from it comes out wrong or half-empty. Use a single-column layout, standard headings — Summary, Skills, Experience, Education — and a normal font.
Before uploading, run the file through our free ATS resume checker to see what a parser extracts. If it cannot find your job titles and dates, neither can Naukri, nor the enterprise ATS at the company you apply to directly later.

5. Set your notice period honestly, and update it the day it changes
Notice period is one of the hardest filters in Indian recruiting, because a hiring manager closing a role this quarter cannot wait ninety days. Profiles marked immediate or fifteen days get disproportionate attention, which tempts people to lie. Do not — it surfaces on the first screening call, and consultants remember. If you are serving notice, say so and give your last working day; that detail alone moves you from a maybe to a priority call. If a buyout is possible, mention it in the summary rather than misstating the field.
6. Complete every section, including current and expected CTC
Naukri shows a completeness indicator for a reason: complete profiles rank above incomplete ones and give recruiters fewer reasons to skip you. Fill employment history with real dates, education, key skills, IT skills where relevant, projects, and the career profile block covering industry, functional area, role category and employment type.
CTC is the field most often left blank, and it costs calls — a recruiter cannot slot an unpriced candidate into a budgeted requisition. Enter your actual fixed CTC in lakhs, and set an expected figure that is a defensible band rather than a wish, justified by what is already in your profile.
| Filter recruiters apply | What a weak profile shows | What to set instead |
|---|---|---|
| Notice period | Blank, or a stale 90 days you finished serving months ago | Your real current band, updated the day it changes; add your last working day if serving |
| Current CTC | Blank or a placeholder | Actual fixed CTC in lakhs, so recruiters can budget you |
| Preferred location | Anywhere in India | Two or three named cities, plus Remote only if you genuinely want it |
| Total experience | Rounded up, or inconsistent with your employment dates | Exact years and months, matching your employment entries |
7. Name your preferred locations precisely
"Anywhere in India" feels flexible and reads as unfocused. A recruiter filling a Hyderabad role filters for Hyderabad, and a candidate who named it ranks above one who named everywhere. Pick two or three cities you would genuinely relocate to. If you want remote or hybrid, set it explicitly in the career profile block — remote-friendly product companies filter on it directly.
8. Add a professional photo
Naukri is a profile platform, not an anonymised CV pipeline, and recruiters consistently report that a clear professional photograph makes a profile feel more legitimate and gets it opened more often. This is the opposite of the rule for your resume file, where a photo hurts parsing and invites bias. Keep the photo on the profile, off the document.
Get called: recency and timing
9. Update your profile on a rhythm, not in bursts
How recently a profile was modified is a live sort option in recruiter search, and many recruiters restrict results to profiles updated in the last few days precisely to avoid calling people who already have offers. A small genuine edit — refreshing the summary, adding a skill, adjusting the headline — puts you back in that window. Set a reminder for every three or four days while you are looking. Lowest effort on this list, most ignored.
10. Apply in the first 24 to 48 hours
Indian postings attract enormous volume, and most recruiters work the pile in the order it arrives, closing the shortlist long before the posting comes down. Applying on day one puts you in the batch that gets read. Turn on job alerts, check them each morning, and treat anything more than about three days old as a low-probability application.
More calls is not the same as better calls
Once your profile is optimised you will get more calls, and many will be staffing consultants pitching roles unrelated to what you want. That is the cost of visibility, not a fault. You raise call quality the same way you raised volume — by being more specific. A headline naming your domain, a summary stating the kind of company you target, a realistic expected CTC and two named cities all filter the inbound before it reaches your phone.
If the calls consistently sit a level below where you should be, the problem is positioning rather than the platform. Our profile analysis reads how your experience, skills and presentation land with the people screening you, and returns a prioritised list of what to fix first.
Naukri alone is half a job search
Naukri is where Indian recruiters run active searches, particularly for IT services, BPO, sales, finance and core engineering roles. It is not where inbound outreach from product companies and startups begins — that happens on LinkedIn, among passive candidates and referrals. Run both, keeping keywords consistent so the same search finds you twice. A LinkedIn profile optimisation rewrites the headline, About section and skills that drive discovery there; we compared the platforms in Naukri vs LinkedIn.
Two platforms plus career portals plus referrals means four records of where you stand, which is how follow-ups get missed. A job application tracker puts every application in one pipeline with interview reminders, so you can also see which channel actually produces interviews and spend your time there.
FAQ
How often should I update my Naukri profile?
Every three to four days while you are actively job hunting. Recruiters routinely sort or filter by how recently a profile was modified, so a stale profile drops out of the result set even when well written. The edit has to be real — rewriting a summary line counts, opening and closing the page does not.
Should I fill in my expected CTC, or does it get me filtered out?
Fill it in. Recruiters hire against a budget, and an unpriced profile is harder to place than one priced slightly high, so blanks get skipped. Set a band you can justify against your experience. If you are genuinely flexible, say so in the summary rather than leaving the field empty.
Why do I get calls for roles that do not match my profile?
Because staffing consultants search broadly and call widely — a side effect of ranking well. Tighten it by stating your domain and target company type in the headline and summary, naming two or three cities instead of everywhere, and keeping key skills tight rather than padded with technologies you would not want to be hired for.
Is a photo really necessary on Naukri?
Not mandatory, but it helps — recruiters open profiles with a clear professional photograph more readily than faceless ones. Keep it to the profile only. Do not put a photo on the resume file you upload, where it hurts parsing and invites bias in corporate screening.
Do Naukri's paid visibility add-ons get me more calls?
They push your profile in front of recruiters more often, but they cannot make it match a search whose keywords it does not contain. If your headline, key skills and CTC fields are weak, paying only buys more views of a profile that still fails the filters. Fix the free fields first.
